What is the psychology of clicking.

What is the psychology of clicking? I want something, I go to Google, I search for that information, I go to websites based on their description. Wouldn't it be great if somebody clicked on a description and went directly to an affiliate link?. Of course that's not possible. It is illegal in most affiliate circumstances. Yet that is exactly what we are trying to do isn't it? It's as if we see something that seems to answer our questions and then it doesn't answer our questions and the link is put before us  seems to answer our questions more.
Okay maybe I'm off track, but then again maybe I am dead on for a change. In the 1980s I purchased a book called the Market Wizards. Jack Schwager interviewed several powerful market traders at that time. And what was really cool about all of this is that even though it seemed these traders came from different backgrounds and use different methods of trading in reality they were all pretty much the same. Jack used the example of snipers in the military. Snipers in the military seemingly have different backgrounds, and yet they all have the same psychological traits.
Everybody who clicks on a link comes from a different background. What is this same characteristic behind these individuals actions?
Let's start again. I have a want, I have the need, I go to the Internet to satisfy my query. I do a search. I get results. I scan the results. Something in the result description sticks out of my mind as the answer to my query. I click on that result. I quickly scan the page before me. I quickly decide whether or not this answers my question or it doesn't. If this answers my query then I read further or I save the page. Now returning or reading this page there are links to other pages. At what point do I decide to click on the links to the other pages?
So, my job as a web builder is to entice the searcher, give them the information they are seeking, and then give them cause to journey further through my affiliate links. Well that seems pretty simple doesn't it?  I think at this point what I really need is a formula. Now the real question is where do I find this formula. If I find this formula, what is it worth to me?. If I find this formula what is it worth to you?
